Mann and Himsworth

Mann and Himsworth connection

Harriet E M Mann from Penzance, Cornwall, married Edwin Himsworth and moved to Sheffield in Yorkshire. His sister, Sabina Himsworth, married a welshman named Robert James Stokes, a painter and decorator who moved to Sheffield and establised the Stokes paints factory.

Harriet E M Mann's brother-in-law, Joseph Beeston Himsworth, wrote about the devlopment from flint to stainless steel in his book 'The Story of Cutlery'. His daughter, Joyce Rosemary Himsworth (1905 - 1990), was born in Sheffield and, from an early age, worked with her silversmith father, making small spoons and items of jewellery. She became well-known for her works of art and became a member of the Sheffield Art Crafts Guild.
