Where does the Chirgwin written in stone come from ?

Answer : It starts in 1887.

These photographs were taken in the graveyard of St. Pol de Leon, the parish church of Paul in Cornwall

Details from the inscription:

George Gruzelier born - 1811 died 1863.

Arabella (his wife) - died 1893 aged 85.

Eugenie Sans Chirgwin - died 1934 age 65 - is the daughter of their son, Capt George Gruzelier.

[Eugenie married William Charles Chirgwin in 1887]

Also, on the sides of the grave are the inscriptions:

(left) George Clarence [Chirgwin] beloved husband of Matilda and father of Grahame Chirgwin who passed peacefully away Aug 5th 1938.

(right) Also of Matilda, wife of George Clarence Chirgwin died Jan 31st 1970 age 78

Details from the inscription:

George Gruzelier - born 1836, died Alabama USA 1870 - leaving his wife Johanna (1833 to 1913).

[She was left a universal legatee for life or widowhood. She remarried in 1876, to John Cary and passed away in 1913]

Jessie Beatrice - died 1889 - was the daughter of George and Johanna.

Alphonso Chirgwin -1894 to1910 - is also mentioned on the stone. [He was the son of Eugenie Sans Gruzelier and William Charles Chirgwin]
